The Rats of Nim is relatively new as an active breeder in the commercial market. However, with 15+ years of experience with rats as pets, running a rat rescue, and generally working in animal oriented areas, The Rats of Nim is able to offer a rewarding purchaser experience.
It is always encouraged for any potential new animal owner to visit the animals they are to invite into their lives, in situ, with the parent animals. At The Rats of Nim we welcome any enquirers, without the presumption of a purchase. Please use the contact form to the right if you wish to arrange such a visit.
We are primarily breeding blue and black colours, of Berkshire, Self, and Roan markings. Because we are a young stud though, we are currently developing our lines, so there will be a variety of markings available until our lines have settled down. It is a very exciting time here!
No matter the markings of the rats bred, we breed from the healthiest and friendliest stock. None of our breeding stock have ever suffered from any hereditary or communicable illness or condition. Where a parent rat has required veterinary treatment at any stage of their life, it will be noted clearly on the page of the litter.
Rats bred at The Rats of Nim are raised in a full communal setting, as near to a natural rat environment as we believe can be achieved hygienically, and safely, within a cage. We have a large mischief, with a mixture of ages, and personalities, many of whom were rescues. Our breeding stock live among this varied, exciting, multitude.
If you are new to rat keeping, or are simply curious, we have a series of leaflets / fact sheets that you will find useful. As the site progresses these resources will become available to download. You are welcome to contact us using the form to the right, to request these for the time being, however.
If for whatever reason, a customer is unhappy with, or unable to care for, the rats that have been purchased from us, we will happily accept those rats back into our Mischief. We do wish to know of any problems with our rats, either behavioural, or health conditions, so that we can maintain the quality of our lines. As such, we hope to keep dialogue open with all customers.
The Rats of Nim has a responsibility to the rats that they breed, to find them suitable, happy homes. As such, any new customers will be asked to fill in a form, and may also be asked additional questions. There is no victimization intended to anyone in this. It is simply part of the process, and we will be grateful if people will not take it personally.
